Tragedy Strikes Tragedy: Comic Delay and Drawing Time Extensions

November 13, 2011 | Justin

Unfortunately, for various reasons, DAPshow has delayed Theatre of Tragedy from being published until 2012. It’s a shame, but it is something we had to do, and overall it is for the betterment of the book. Apologies to all the artists who have had to wait on this, especially the ones waiting since March, but trust us on this — it will be worth it.

The plus side to this is that we WILL be accepting entries in the meantime, and extending the deadline until at least February 2012. We will have an exact date soon, but for now it’s just that month span.

To learn more about what/how to submit, take a stroll to the Theatre of Tragedy.

A Look Inside Gothology: Belfry Twins

July 20, 2011 | Justin

A fan favorite of the first two books, The Belfry Twins has been a big part of the Gothology series thus far. It was created by Annalise Addams and Ashley Witter, together are known as Tarts 4 Life.

We are always excited when artists we have shared the experience of making Gothology Comics make a name for themselves, and with Yen Press’ recent announcement that Ashley Witter was drawing their adaptation of the Anne Rice novel Interview With a Vampire, we were pretty floored, and very proud. Publishers Weekly also did an interview with Ashley. Keep an eye out for this comic, we can pretty much guarantee it will look amazing.

And how can we know this already? Well, let us just take a gander into the exciting two issues of The Belfry Twins from the first two Gothology books, The Eternal Sad and Misery Loves Company.

Comic anthology Theatre of Tragedy: New Deadline for Artists

June 16, 2011 | Justin

Today we bring both good news and bad news. The bad news is we are about 70 pages short of a completed book and a release of Theatre of Tragedy is still a ways off. The good news however is we are placing a second deadline, so if you missed our original deadline, you still have a chance to get your comic/art in. The new deadline will be the 15th of July. You may also recognize that date as sir Ian Curtis’ birthday.

Our prediction of Tragedy coming on 4/20/11 may have been off, but if Harold Camping has taught us anything, it’s that we can just pick another date, and we feel very good about 7/15/11.

A reminder of our submission guidelines:

3+ page comic relating to the theme (must be b/w or grayscale/toned)
1 photo/drawing for artist bio
Contact Info (e-mail, website)/A paragraph or two about yourself for artist bio

Page Sizing:

6.625 x 10.25 inches (168 x 260 mm)
With bleed, 7 x 10.5 (178 x 267 mm)
For safety, text should be inside 6 x 9 inches (152 x 229 mm)
Text that is in the bleed, will most likely get cut off
Pages must be at least 300dpi

We are taking Illustrations, as well. Same size requirements, and should have contact information sent in with them. Inside front and inside back illustrations can be in color. We can only use a few illustrations for each book (though, we will hold ones we like for future books).

You can also view the official Theatre of Tragedy page for some more information.

Email submissions to gothology(at)dapshow(dot)com!

In other news, happy Number of the Beast Day.

Theatre of Tragedy Submissions

April 27, 2011 | Justin

To those who have sent in comics and illustrations for the third volume of Gothology: Thank you. The submissions we have been receiving are quite nice and this book is shaping up to be our best yet. We should have had some contact with everyone who has submitted by now. If we haven’t replied to you to let you know we have it, contact us to see if we have gotten it.

We are currently reviewing submissions, and within the next two weeks well send out emails out to each contributor with any changes needed (if any), and a release form if their contributions are approved.

To those who HAVEN’T sent in anything and were working on submissions or wanted to, we still have plenty of space to fill — so we’ll still be taking submissions until the latter part of May — this especially goes out to those who have been given some extra time to already. In case you need a refresher, here’s a link to the requirements for Theatre of Tragedy.

April 24, 2011 | Justin

Children of the night, the deadline of our beloved Gothology continues to draw near.

Currently there are only 9 days remaining! Things are getting a little tight now, but once again, I urge everyone not to rush through your entries to try and finish them on time.

If the deadline comes, and you still feel you need a little extra time, let us know!
